History

The building at Kurpių st. 3 in the old town of Klaipeda, built on the foundations of an older XVII-XVIII building, keeping the basement rooms. The name of the street testifies that it was in the 16th - 17th centuries. There were craftsmen - shoemakers.
Historical sources testify that in the 18th century in the second half - the 19th century. in the first half, merchants settled in this part of the old town, merchant residential houses and warehouses were built here.
After the fire destroyed the buildings, the plot was also purchased around 1855 - 1865. Johan Vilhelm Reincke, the biggest owner of the Klaipeda brewery, built the building that is still standing.
After Reincke's death, the building is purchased by lawyer and notary R.L. Schultz. The building housed a lawyer's and notary's office, residential apartments, and part of the premises was rented.
According to the data in 1898, the building, together with the structures of the neighboring blocks, belonged to the Hirschberger family of merchants, who lived in Klaipeda in the 19th century. had founded several companies at the end. One type of activity was the production and sale of alcoholic beverages.
Arved Ogilvie is named as the last owner in 1934 - 1944 . For some time he was the director of the Klaipeda Trade and Promotional Bank (Memeler Bank fur Handel und Gewerbe, later Memeler Bank A. - G.), the owner of the private "Treunhand @ Revisionskontor". His company's office was located in the building.
Ogilvie's great-grandparents came to Klaipeda in the 18th century from Scotland. It was one of the most famous family of the 19th century.
